Nissan Altima B2608 Starter Relay

In the realm of Nissan Altima 2007-2012 service, one crucial component that demands attention is the B2608 starter relay. This article amalgamates information from the Nissan Altima 2007-2012 Service Manual and an exploration into the B2608 starter relay itself, shedding light on its functionality, diagnosis, and possible replacements.

Understanding the B2608 Starter Relay

Located in the IPDM E/R, the B2608 starter relay plays a pivotal role in initiating the starter motor. Activated by the BCM when the ignition switch is in the START position, the IPDM E/R transmits the starter relay ON signal to the BCM through CAN communication.

Diagnostic Procedures

DTC Logic

When dealing with Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) B2608, it’s essential to follow a systematic approach:

  • If DTC B2608 is detected alongside DTC U1000, troubleshoot DTC U1000 first.
  • If DTC B2608 appears with DTC U1010, prioritize the diagnosis of DTC U1010.

DTC Confirmation Procedure

  1. Perform DTC Confirmation Procedure:
    • Press the push-button ignition switch with the CVT selector lever in P or N position and the brake pedal depressed.
    • Check “Self diagnostic result” with CONSULT-III.
    • If DTC is detected, refer to the Diagnosis Procedure in SEC-482.
  2. Diagnosis Procedure: Check Starter Relay
    • Turn the ignition switch ON.
    • Check voltage between BCM harness connector and ground.
    • If the measurement value is within the specification, proceed to step 3.
    • If not, proceed to step 2.
  3. Diagnosis Procedure: Check Starter Relay Circuit
    • Turn the ignition switch OFF.
    • Disconnect BCM harness connector M21 and IPDM E/R harness connector E17.
    • Check continuity between IPDM E/R harness connector and BCM harness connector.
    • Check continuity between IPDM E/R harness connector and ground.
    • If the inspection result is normal, replace IPDM E/R. Refer to PCS-48, “Removal and Installation.”
    • If not, proceed with harness or connector repair.
  4. Check Intermittent Incident:
    • Refer to GI-42, “Intermittent Incident.”
